Glam Cthulhu Look

Hey guys!

I don’t talk about this a lot on my blog, in fact I think I’ve only talked about it once and it was around Christmas, but I love to play board games! They’ve become super popular lately and one of my favourite games to play is Fantasy Flight’s Eldritch Horror, based on fiction written by H.P. Lovecraft! It is a cooperative game that requires you to team up with friends to beat monsters, close gates, solve mysteries and gain items. This week, I went to a board games night at a friend’s house and I thought that it’d be fun to do my makeup inspired by the cosmic entity that is Cthulhu! I hope that you enjoy.

I didn’t get to talk about mental health all that much this week. This week we also had Suicide Prevention Day or as some people know it, R U OK day. I have my own opinions of the whole R U OK idea but I know that to the core, it comes from a very good place and can help a lot of people. This week I also submitted an essay on a sociological theorist called Emile Durkheim who wrote on suicide and how society plays a large role in suicides and I think that if everyone gave his work a little read, we might all be better for it. Alternatively, I might submit my paper to Academia.com so that you guys can read it because it will be in words that are much easier to understand than a proper theoretical paper haha.

I spoke to some people this week about how I am going mentally. September has actually been a pretty bad month for myself, mentally. I know though that talking about it with people that I can trust is really helping me a lot and I would encourage you all to do the same if you find yourself in a similar situation.

You’re worth receiving help. You don’t have to struggle through mental illness on your own.

Review: ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips

Hey guys!

A couple of weeks ago, my Colourpop order arrived and I was so excited because two of the shades that I picked up were bought because I knew that I was participating in Liptember. I’ve heard pretty mixed reviews on this product but they’re mostly positive. I think that everyone is mainly excited that we have amazing liquid lipstick colours at pretty great prices.

I firstly want to talk about the price and shipping because for Australians, it’s really important at the moment with our dollar so low. The shipping on the website is weighted, so unless you’re getting a free shipping deal, this could be one pricey purchase for us. I ordered 4 colours and they were $6 USD each. With shipping added and price converted to AUD, each lipstick (with a portion of the shipping included) was about $12.50 AUD. I like adding in the shipping when I divide up the price because I like to see how it might compare to products that we can already by here. Note that this was before the stock market crash so things might actually be worse now than when I originally ordered.

So that makes this product more expensive than an Australis Velourlips. For the vast colour range, I think that a few extra dollars per lipstick is totally worth it.

The formula of these is like nothing I’ve used before. I’ve never used Lime Crime (thank god), Stila, Anastasia Beverly Hills or LA Splash, etc. It’s thinner than the Me Now Long Lasting Lipglosses but when it has dried on the lips, it feels a lot like the Australis Velourlips, but maybe a tad more drying. And of course, like all matte liquid lipsticks, these are drying. It’s expected. If you don’t like drying lipsticks, don’t go near this product. You can wear it with a lip balm underneath and it will be pretty comfortable, so I’d recommend doing that.

L to R: Midi, Clueless, Jellies, Dr. M

This product dries FAST! It is very watery and extremely pigmented and it dries within about a minute, so you need to work fast but you also won’t need to keep your mouth open for too long, for it to dry.

Jellies and Dr. M

The picture where I’m wearing Clueless is probably my new favourite picture of myself. I love the colour and how it suits my skin. Midi looks just like my natural lip colour but it makes me look more done up. I can see this being a really versatile shade with liner and ombre lips and things. Jellies and Dr. M are very pigmented and they definitely make a statement. I remember saying to Caitlan and Zoe that I wished that there was an easily accessible dark green matte liquid lipstick and I think that Colourpop gave us exactly what we were asking for!

Overall, I am very happy with these lip products and I would like to buy more soon!

I hope that you are all having a fantastic day!

Big, Bold and Beautiful! Liptember Recommendations

Hey guys!

In a week’s time, I will be starting my month of bold lip colours, Liptember. I didn’t realise it was so close! The colours that you can choose for Liptember are; blue, green, orange, red, purple, yellow and pink. I’m ready and I’m going to share with you some shades that can help you to be prepared for the big, bold and beautiful month of September!

Australis Velourlips in MAL-I-BOO, NY-CEE, TOK-I-O and RIO-D.

It has been very evident on this blog that I adore the Australis Velourlips, so naturally, I’d want to wear them as much as humanly possible and incorporate them into my Liptember challenge. I actually don’t own MAL-I-BOO and RIO-D, which is why I wanted to use another photo to share them with you all but I think that at some point during Liptember, I’ll probably pick the shades up. I wear the other two shades regularly and can’t recommend them enough. Make sure you apply a lip balm before applying these so that your lips don’t dry out too much! You can purchase these from Australis or Priceline!

NYX Macaron Lippies

I own Blue Velvet, Violet, Pistachio and Chambord and I would recommend all of them. They are a cream finish, which can be problematic when you are trying to not get this kind of colour all over your face haha. The shades that I own are very pigmented and I’ve only heard that Citron and Key Lime have pigment issues. All of the colours that I own stain the lips, so you can even dab them with a tissue and they should still be opaque. You can purchase these from all over the place, unfortunately they don’t sell this line at Target in Australia, from memory. They do, however, sell the Wicked Lippies, although I don’t know that I would really recommend them. They do have some nice colours but the pigmentation is all over the place hahaha.

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Blue Velvet, Redrum, I’m Royalty and Anna Nicole

Zoe from NewbyToBeauty owns pretty much every colour of these Jeffree Star Lipsticks and I just recently bought Blue Velvet for myself. These lipsticks have so much hype online and I think that it is very deserved. The colours are stunning and they’re great quality for the money that you play. I buy my Jeffree Star lipsticks from Rouche Boutique but you can also buy them directly from Jeffree Star Cosmetics. I’d recommend buying them from Rouche though because they are based in Australia, they have great customer service and they have fast shipping! What more could you want?

Colour Pop Ultra Matte Lips in Mr. Blonde, Jellies, Dr. M and Be-Dazzled

8-ultra-matte-webs

There are so many more shades of these Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks but I thought I would just stick to the most recently released shades, which are actually shades that I picked up! I’m actually waiting on Jellies, Dr. M, Clueless and Midi, which I will be doing a review post on very soon. Just waiting on good ol’ reliable AUSPost (can you feel the sarcasm?).
I’ve heard some mixed opinions on these, most of the criticism comes from the fact that they are really drying but I don’t mind that. I’ve dealt with those Me Now Lip colours so I think that these will be fine. All matte lipsticks are drying, it comes with the finish but it is something to think about. These are incredibly cheap, which is why I wanted to mention them. But the shipping to Australia is rather expensive. You can purchase these from Colour Pop Cosmetics.

pink-divider-no-background-md

There are a lot of other brands bringing out similar colours like Pretty Zombie Cosmetics, LA Splash, Coloured Raine, etc. but I haven’t tried out the brand and neither have any of my close friends. Even BH Cosmetics have just brought out a line of Pop Art lipsticks, which feature similar colours, which might be of interest. I also know that MAC does amazing reds and has just brought out a blue with their recent Mattes collection.

I hope that this has helped some of you get ideas for Liptember or might just help you find where to buy unusual lip colours! I hope that you’re all having a beautiful day!
